Ways to Keep Your Stuff Safe In Storage

If you live in an urban area, you can understand the value of space. Whether it’s for construction purposes, or industrial purposes, a mini storage unit is capable of providing complete safety to your valuable items. With the much needed extra space provided by the storage unit, you are also able to free your home or office from the clutter look. However, when you rent any storage unit, it’s best if you keep a few things in mind.

1. Checking the facility’s security – Before renting a mini storage unit, ask the professionals whether the building has surveillance cameras and if access by strangers is restricted. The more levels of protection you get for your belongings, the better. If you’re requested to provide a lock for your unit, you should always look for the sturdy ones.

2. Consider flooding and other natural hazards – Even a completely secure mini storage unit can be at the mercy of the elements. So, if the building that has storage units has multiple stories, a higher floor will definitely be a better option. A climate controlled mini storage unit can be worth the extra expense as well. It will be able to protect your belongings from temperature extremes as well as excessive humidity.

3. Know whether you are insured – If you have an insurance policy and it provides some coverage for your possessions, you should check with the agent whether it’s adequate or not. These policies might have limit for the amount of coverage for certain types of items. So, if you’re looking for a mini storage unit, make sure that you choose additional coverage for all your belongings. If you don’t have a homeowner or renter policy, make sure to look for a company that offers insurance.

4. Keep a list – Even though it might seem to be an extra work, it would be better if you make a list of everything in your mini storage unit. Taking photos is also a good idea. You will find this list extremely useful if you ever need to file an insurance claim and it will also serve as a guide to what’s kept in your locker.

Besides the above mentioned points, you should make sure to visit your mini storage unit regularly. You should also make your storage payments in time to maintain good relations with the unit.
