Moving to New York City

When first moving to New York City, there’s a lot to think about. Where will you live, which borough is right for you? What steps do you need to prepare for the move? Do you know how to choose good moving and storage, reputable NYC moving companies or NYC movers?

Picking a Good Neighborhood

Manhattan is the smallest and densest borough in New York City. It’s one of the biggest financial and tourist areas in America and the world. It’s considered “the city” so when most people talk about NYC they’re usually talking about Manhattan. Brooklyn is where most people live in NYC, and is undergoing gentrification, is ethnically diverse, and has great food. Queens is on the western part of Long Island, with JFK and LaGuardia Airport, with a lot of jazz history and art. The Bronx is usually known for its poverty, but it’s undergoing a revival and has plenty of affordable housing (as far as NYC prices go). Staten Island has plenty of art, museums, and other attractions including a national park area that is quite beautiful. Staten Island is often called the greenest borough of New York City.

Order supplies like boxes, tape, and packaging so you can get everything to your new place intact. Getting Moved

First, finding a New York moving company is what you need to start with. There are several, along with NYC movers who provide affordable moving and flat rate movers services. It’s best to pick a flat rate moving service, because these have less leeway to overcharge or add in extra time. Try to select a mover who has been in business for at least ten years, and has a good reputation that you can find online. Another mark of a good mover is they will send someone out to do an in-home estimate, to check to see how much time, people, and money you will need to spend to get moved into your new home. Once you’re satisfied with your nyc movers, it’s time to move! It’s a good idea to set aside 10% of your moving fee as a tip in cash to give the movers personally when the move has been complete.
