Preparing to Move Belongings to a Storage Unit
50% of the work is done with preparation. The same rule is applied when you are preparing for moving the possessions into a self storage building. If you plan out wisely, it would become easier to move the belongings and pulling out any specific item out of the unit in the future.
How to Start?
You must begin with making a list of the items to be stored in the unit. After preparing the list, carefully take the measurements and figure out the storage space that will be required to keep the belongings.
What You Need?
Start collecting material required for packing the belongings. You find these around office, home or can simply purchase them. These would include:
Boxes – These can be small, medium or large in size, depending upon your belongings. You can get the boxes in office mailroom or grocery store dumpster.
Tape Gun – Do keep the tape gun aside when packing your belongings. See if you can borrow from office.
Stuffing items – For this, look for paper, bubble sheets, peanuts, styrofoam and the like. You can easily get these from the packages you receive.
How to Organize?
Label all the boxes that you are going to keep in the storage unit. Give a special mark to the boxes carrying fragile items. Store the cartons with same items together.
Keep the heavier boxes at the bottom and pile the lighter and fragile items at the top.
Make the list of the all the items you have stored with a clean diagram specifying which item is located where in the storage unit, NYC.
